Summary of cover

LawPlan covers legal costs up to £50,000 per event (unless stated otherwise below) for the following:

Employment disputes such as

  • Defence of a wages dispute
  • Unfair, wrongful or constructive dismissal
  • Sexual, disability, racial, religious or age discrimination
  • Allegations of victimisation

Prosecutions including:

  • Overloading
  • Insecure Loads
  • Maintenance defects such aa s faulty brakes or lights and worn tyres
  • 'O' licence offences
  • Vehicle excise duty irregularities
  • Lack of goods vehicle test certificate
  • Vehicle in dangerous condition
  • Excessive vehicle length or width
  • Cruelty to animals in transit
  • Tachograph and speed limiter irregularities (£5,000 per event)

As prosecution cover extends to every EU country, Andorra, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and Turkey, cover does not stop after you leave the UK.

Penalty appeals:

  • Company-only London Lorry Ban fixed penalty appeals
  • Immigration & Asylum Act civil penalty appeals

‘O’ Licence Public Inquiries

  • For disciplinary matters or complaints, other than those resulting from a commercial decision you make

Main exclusions:

  • Prosecutions relating to death, bodily injury, property damage, pollution and driving offences, such as speeding.
  • Compensation awards, fines or penalties.
  • Employment disputes relating to a casual, self-employed or agency worker and disputes relating to damages for personal injuries or damage to property.
  • Public Inquiry costs incurred where you have not done what was set out in a decision letter from a previous inquiry.
  • Public Inquiries and employment disputes which happen within three months of the start of your policy.
  • Any appeals under the employment, London lorry ban, immigration & asylum, operator’s licence or LGV licence sections.
  • Claims arising from the deliberate, conscious, intentional or careless disregard by you of the need to take all reasonable steps to avoid, prevent and limit any such claims.

  • The above is a summary of the cover provided by LawPlan. When you pay for LawPlan you will get a policy wording and a certificate of insurance.
  • It is a condition of LawPlan that you pay the premium for all the goods-carrying commercial vehicles you operate at the start of each period of insurance.
  • Costs incurred before the insurer has accepted a claim, costs the insurers have not agreed to or costs covered by another insurance policy are not covered.

Our aim is to get it right, first time, every time. If we make a mistake, we will try to put it right promptly. We will always confirm to you the receipt of your complaint within five working days and do our best to resolve the problem within four weeks. If we cannot, we will let you know when an answer can be expected.
